What is a 3D Areola Restoration Tattoo?

A 3D Areola Restoration Tattoo is a cosmetic procedure that uses tattooing to replicate the natural appearance of the areola and nipple, often following breast reconstruction or augmentation. It can also address issues such as asymmetry or color loss in the areola. This technique, also known as paramedical tattooing, is a non-invasive, permanent, and highly realistic form of art designed to restore a natural look. It’s ideal for those who have undergone a mastectomy, experienced total or partial loss, or have irregularities in their areola and nipple after breast reconstructive surgery or augmentation.

5 Life-Changing Benefits

3D Areola Restoration Tattoos provide women with the opportunity to restore their self-confidence and feel more at ease in their bodies following breast surgery or trauma. This type of medical tattooing offers a range of benefits beyond enhancing the breast’s appearance, such as boosting self-esteem and aiding the healing process. The advantages of Areola Restoration and 3D Nipple Tattoos include:

  1. Re-establishing the natural look of the breast.

  2. Enhancing confidence and feeling empowered in your own body.

  3. Creating a lifelike areola and nipple.

  4. Completing the reconstruction or top surgery journey.

  5. Facilitating emotional healing and closure to an emotional journey.

Ensure you have no alcohol in your system.

3D Areola Restoration Aftercare Instructions (glow and heal!)

Receiving an Areola Tattoo can be a transformative experience, but proper aftercare is essential for achieving the best results and preventing any complications. Follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth healing process and to maximize the benefits of your tattoo!

  • First 48 Hours: Avoid wearing a tight bra to allow proper healing.

Days 2–5: Refrain from exposing the tattoo to foreign body fluids.

Avoid heavy sweating, swimming in pools or hot tubs, and UV exposure (including tanning beds).

Days 6–14: Do not use scented lotions or tanning products on the tattoo.

Avoid scratching, picking, or peeling any dry skin or flakiness.

Beyond Day 14: Avoid using exfoliants, retinol, glycolic acids, or AHAs on the tattooed area for 30 days, as these can cause premature fading of the pigment.

Refrain from laser light therapy, as it may affect the color or pigment of your tattoo.

  • First 48 Hours: Keep the bandages on for 48 hours.

Days 2–5: After removing the bandages, gently wash the tattooed area with lukewarm water and unscented soap or cleanser before bed.

Apply the aftercare product provided by Lure Studio in a thin layer after cleaning.

Repeat the cleaning and aftercare routine in the morning and evening.

  • First 48 Hours: Treat the tattoo like an open wound during this time.

Days 2–5: Avoid applying excessive amounts of aftercare balm or lotions, but do not let the area become too dry.

Days 6–14: Switch to an unscented lotion, like Lubriderm or Cetaphil, and continue moisturizing the area for two weeks.

Beyond Day 14: Keep the area protected from sun exposure with a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) once fully healed.

Periodic touch-ups may be needed over time to maintain vibrancy and realism. Keep the bandages on for 48 hours.

 3D AREOLA RESTORATION FAQs

  • The process involves several steps:

    • First, we outline the desired shape and size of the areola and nipple on the breast or chest to ensure the correct design. Numbing cream may be applied to ensure comfort during the procedure.

    • Next, we use specially selected inks in flesh tones or brown/black shades, depending on your skin tone, to create a realistic effect.

    • These inks are carefully mixed and blended as needed to achieve the most natural color. In some cases, we incorporate a watercolor technique by mixing the inks with water to mimic the soft, natural look of an areola.

•Once completed, you will have the opportunity to view the final result, and bandages will be applied to protect the area during healing.

  • Areola tattoos, also known as nipple tattoos, usually last between 3 to 8 years. However, lighter shades tend to fade more quickly than darker ones.

Lifestyle choices can also affect the longevity of the tattoo. For instance, frequent tanning or sun exposure can cause the tattoo to fade much faster, often within 1 to 2 years.

  • The initial areola restoration procedure typically lasts between 2 to 2.5 hours. A touch-up session, which is usually scheduled 8 to 12 weeks later, takes around 1 to 1.5 hours.

  • For most clients who have undergone mastectomy or top surgery, pain is minimal or non-existent due to the scarring. However, individuals with natural nipples and areolas may experience some discomfort. To ensure your comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream during the procedure, keeping pain levels low. On the pain scale, expect it to be around an 3 out of 10.

  • Typically, the healing process is complete within ten days.

  • Like with any tattoo, you may experience temporary side effects such as discomfort, swelling, and irritation.

  • You should wait at least 12 weeks after your final surgery before getting your areola tattooed.

For any scars, we recommend waiting until they are fully healed, which typically takes at least 6 months.

If you’re unsure about your readiness, feel free to email photos to lurestudioaz@gmail.com for a consultation.
